DAY 6: LOS ARCOS TO LOGROñO (May 13 and resting on Sunday May 14)

A long, hard, exhausting, challenging 19+ mile hike over hills, through valleys, over plains; on rocks, gravel, pavement, and whatever happened to be on the trail. It took us 7 and a half hours to arrive at our hotel. The brain is still a little fuzzy but here is what we saw:

This is one of my very favorite little churches along the Camino: La Iglesia del Santo Sepulcro (12th century) in Torres del Rio. It has an octagonal nave and a small apse. Little is known of its origin: some believe it to be associated with the Order of the Holy Tomb and others with the Monastery at Irache (under whose authority the church was built between 1160-1170.

The apse with a crucified Christ from the 13th century.

Ceiling: Eight arches start from the corbels that intersect to form a star and a leave a free octagon in the middle of the circle. Around the entire circle is a checkerboard pattern.

On the left capital (above) of the column leading to the apse is a representation of the Descent from the Cross on the opposite side (below) is a representation of the "Visitatio Sepulcri" (the discovery of the empty tomb).

Walking on...

Above are grape vineyards and olive trees. I am always stunned at how straight they can carve out the rows in their fields.

These are our friends Juan Carlos (left) and Francisco (right). We have walked with them off and on from Roncesvalles. They will end their walking in Logroño and return another year to move farther along the Camino.

One of the snack vendors along the Camino. They always seem to appear at just the right moment.

Entering Viana thae celebrated its 900 anniversry in 2019.

Entering Logroño. Last time we came into this city it was pouring rain.

Sunday, May 14, we rested from our walking. We attended the Logroño Ward. It was wonderful to see many of those who we had met last year. They took a picture of us to include in their ward history:
