Today's walk was again pleasant and relatively easy. I think that the pictures will say more than I can,
Walking out of Estella through the gate to the medieval Jewish quarter of the city. One of the funniest things along the Camino is this "Fuente de Vino" (Wine Fountain) where a local winery provides pilgrims with free beverage. There are always lines of people waiting!!!
The mountains below separate the Basque country from Navarre.
(yes, there were very cold days along the Camino with raining always treating us)
A medieval cistern for collecting water. Inside were steps down to the water level. No, people do not use it anymore.
Along this stretch a very nice young lady started walking with us. She was born in the Netherlands but now lives with her family in Spain and runs a hostel for pilgrims. She walked with us for several kilometers. We had a lovely discussion about Jesus and share with her our beliefs. She was very interested but seemed more intent on finding out if we were believers or not.
This is the interior of the Iglesia de Santa María de los Arcos. It is a mishmash of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo architecture. Really a crazy space that is a bit overwhelming to look at.
In the choir there the figure of San Roque. He is the saint who protects pilgrims. He is always accompanied by a dog and shows a wound on his leg.
This is the church's pipe organ.
